Outpatient Registration

I went to the hospital today and registered for the substance abuse outpatient program. I find that as I make concrete plans to do something about the problem however, I wind up pulling all the stops and doing far more drugs than normal in the period leading up to the supposed stopping point (i.e. entering outpatient program.).

The counselor at the hospital suggested that inpatient detox might be a good idea even though cocaine does not require physical detoxification like alcohol or opiates. The thinking is that a day or two to slow the pace might be helpful leading up to the outpatient sessions which start this Thursday night. End of the day, faced with the decision of quitting drugs at that moment or putting it off for a couple more days, there was no doubt at all about where I was heading. I'm leaving out specifics regarding these hardcore drug runs at this point but this one is right up there. I felt like I affirmatively wanted to go a couple more rounds with coke as opposed to being unable to resist the temptation but I'm not sure if there's a difference. I know the result is the same.

Prometa

Prometa http://www.prometainfo.com/pi/ is marketed by Hythiam, Inc. as an alcohol, cocaine and methamphetamine treatment targeting neurochemical imbalances that are thought to be caused by addiction. The treatment is not covered by insurance and costs $16,000. Both outpatient and inpatient treatment are fully covered by insurance in my case however so it seems to make sense to give those a try first. More on Prometa later...

Quitting Cocaine
